I am researching a project for a class on intellectual freedom. The project requires me to find scholarly research about formal challenges made to Lord of the Flies being in circulation, the author, and, if possible, how different libraries and/or the ALA responded to the challenges. Thank you!

You can find information about this topic in several places.
First, go to the American Library Association page which tracks these issues. You will find some info here: http://www.ala.org/bbooks/frequentlychallengedbooks/classics/reasons. (Copy and paste this URL as it a tricky address).
Second, use both Google and Google Scholar to search for : Challenge* OR Bann* Books "Lord of the Flies"
Third, go to the library website (www.lib.rowan.edu), Select Databases and select either Proquest Central or Academic Source Premier. (I suggest you search both of them. Start with this search: Book AND (ban* OR Challenged) AND "Lord of the Flies")
This should provide you with enough materials to write a paper.
